She swallowed the spider to catch the fly....

Evelyn ate a spider yesterday. Yes, a spider! Ok, we got it out before she swallowed it, but, ewwww!!! We were up in the playroom and a fairly small spider scampered across the carpet. Charlotte ran for the door and the dog decided to sniff it. She sniffed at it for awhile and decided it wasn't that intersting. Well, Evelyn decided to copy the dog. She got down in downward dog position and before I knew it, she had the spider in her mouth! I said, "Monte, I think she put it in her mouth!!!" He was frantically searching her mouth with his finger and sure enough, the spider was in there. This whole time, Charlotte was freaking out. The thought of anyone, especially her beloved sister, with a spider in their mouth was enough to put her over the edge. Daddy saved the day, phew. Little E sure gives us a run for our money!

Firetrucks!!!

We met up with our PEPS pals at the Museum of Flight and we got to spend the morning checking out firetrucks. Climbing into the firetruck was pretty exciting!

A Little Misunderstanding

A conversation I had with Charlotte last night.

Me: Bridget is coming in a little while.
Charlotte: Why is Bridget coming?
Me: Because Mommy and Daddy are going out on a date.
Charlotte: Why are you going on a date?
Me: Because we love each other.
Charlotte: (Her face wide-eyed with excitement) You are getting a baby!

Apparently I answered one of her questions about babies being born with "You need a Mommy and a Daddy and they love each other and they make a baby"....

When I woke her up this morning, the first thing she did was look at my tummy and say, "Mommy! You didn't get a baby!" She was actually pretty mad at me. I told her it takes a long time to get a baby, but she is very impatient...

Twins

Everywhere I go, people ask if they are twins and I say "no, just 13 months apart." Then people say, "Did you plan that?" Hahahaha....
Not the cutest picture, but you can tell how close in size they are.

It might be time to take them to church...

Yesterday we drove by a fancy church with a big steeple and Charlotte said, "look Mommy, a castle!" I replied, "Wow, look at that!" Funny that a two year old might think it normal for a castle to be located just off of I-5 in Seattle.

Wouldn't you know it?

Last night, both girls went down to sleep without a peep? Crazy girls, they sure keep us on our toes.

Bedtime Woes

Why is it that everytime you think you've mastered something as a parent, your child decides to knock you down a peg? A couple of months ago, we felt pretty pleased with our bedtime routine. Monte would give Evelyn a bottle (we know, we know, she needs to be off this. She only has one at bedtime, no other time of day though) say goodnight and lay her down. She rolled over onto her tummy (yes, she IS old enough to safely sleep this way) and drifted off to a sleep that lasted until morning. While he was doing that, Charlotte and I would brush teeth, have a cup of water and read 2 or 3 books and I would tell her one story. Then I said, "I love you, see you in the morning" and left the room. That was that. 7:30 and we had the rest of the evening to ourselves. Bliss.
Flash forward to last night. Evelyn didn't want anything to do with her bottle, screamed and wanted to get down. She picked a few books for Monte to read. He read the books and then tried to rock her. No, she screamed, pointed to the door. Rocking her was obviously not going to happen, so he gave her the choice, "either I rock you or you go in your bed." Her answer to this was simply, "NO!" So he put her in the crib. She screamed and screamed and screamed. It was a little after 8 at this point. I was in the other room trying to get Charlotte down. We read 3 books, then I told her 2 stories. "Mommy, please, rock me." So I say, "Ok, I will rock you one time then I am leaving." I put her back in bed she jumps up. Luckily, she won't actually get out of her bed. We haven't figured this one out yet, but this is one thing I'm glad about regarding bedtime. I tell her a story at the door that ends with, "and her Mommy left the room and closed the door, the end." I went out quickly and she began to scream. So I head downstairs and Monte and I sit and listen to 2 screaming children. Mind you, we have never been the kind to let the kids "cry it out" but we realize we might have to do it. We lasted about 10 minutes. We each took turns trying to rock Evelyn, no luck. Just hysterical crying that ended up with her being plopped back in her crib. Charlotte is still crying, so finally I go into her room and lay with her for a bit to try to calm her down. It's after 9 now and Evelyn finally decides to give up the fight and sleep. I lay with Charlotte for about 30 minutes. She's still awake. Finally I try my escape, "I have to go to the bathroom." She says, "OK, but don't close the door." so I leave the door cracked and leave the room. Yes, I realize it was a lie. I did kind of have to go to the bathroom...
Yes, they are finally asleep. Or not. Monte goes up about 10 and there is Charlotte just sitting on the end of her bed with her legs over the edge. "Daddy, sleep with me." So he did. That's what it finally took. She fell asleep about 10:30 and Monte did too. I could hear him snoring from her room.
Today I had to deal with a very grumpy 2 year old, so I hope tonight is a little less stressful for everyone.

New curtains

I decided to change the dining room a bit. I wasn't sure if I'd like this or not, but I think they look great. Also, the rod to the molding makes the window look larger and the ceiling look taller. I love it.

Gourmet Dinner

I remember my Mom making this for us as a kid. Can you guess what Charlotte's favorite part was?

Grandma and Grandpa come to visit

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit and the girls wanted them to stay forever.
Grandpa has some pretty good ideas for having some fun!

I dropped the girls off at the playroom this morning. They have a reserved spot for June and July on Wednesday mornings from 9-12. As much as I hate dropping them off, it really does them (and me) good. Charlotte cried, "Mommmmmeeeee!!!!" and ran after me. My heart was breaking a little but I just said "goodbye" and kept on going. I peeked in the window seconds later and she was sitting on the floor next to E playing with the dollhouse. Take a deep breath Mom. Your girls CAN survive without you for a couple of hours. I ran home (after a quick stop at Starbucks) and worked around the house frantically until pick up time. They were playing nicely with other kids when I got there and didn't even want to go.
We headed over to Wallingford to visit Bridget (our nanny) who had invited us over to play and have lunch. The girls had a super fun time exploring her home and getting into anything within reach. Sorry Bridget! We took a nice walk to Wallingford center to visit Trophy cupcake shop (yummy) and get a treat. It took quite awhile to walk 3 blocks because Evelyn had to stop and inspect every flower she encountered. That cupcake sure was worth it!

Little Climber

If I see something I want, I'll just go get it. I don't care if I have to climb to the top of the table.

Me and My Potty

Evelyn is really enjoying trying out her new potty. She went pee in it for the first time today! I asked her if she peed and she had to check. What a big girl! Now, if we could just get big sister on board..............

Perfect Score!!!!

Monte has conquered Wii bowling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was out so he took a picture of this to make sure I'd believe him.
